William Donald "Huck" Peerman, who died in 1974 after a successful career as a high school coach, made Ripley's "Believe It or Not" as one of the few pitchers to lose a no-hit, no-run game. Howard University was already leading with five runs on the scoreboard when Peerman took the mound with no outs and three men on base. His Eagle teammates accumulated four the needed runs during Peerman's peerless performance; the game ended 5-4. (Yes, Ripley did stretch a point; that loss would not have been credited to the no-hit pitcher.)
