Robert L. Little, a native of Winston-Salem, NC, made the All-MEAC Basketball First Team during his junior and senior years (1974 and 1975). Upon completion of his tenure at NCCU, he was ranked in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding, and free throws made. Currently, 30 years after graduation, he is still ranked No. 11 in scoring with 1,310 points, and 26th in free throws with 204 made. His rebounding statistics were listed last year in the basketball program as still being in the top 10. He was Captain of his team during his junior and senior years and was the MVP in 1974 and 1975. He played under three coaches: Harry Edmonds, Sam Jones, and Sterling Holt.
Professionally, Robert played for the legendary Harlem Globetrotters from 1975 to 1976 and was part of the main team that traveled around the world. He also played in Turkey from 1977 to 1978 where he continued his excellence in the sport.
He has received numerous awards over the years, including nomination as the City of Winston-Salem employee of the year in 2004, recognition as the President of the Recreation and Parks Society in Winston-Salem, and the State-Wide Athletic Council (SWAC) in 1998 where he coached the 16-18 year team to the state championship in 1998. Robert has mentored and coached many athletes, several of whom continued their careers at NCCU, including Michael Noel in both basketball and football who graduated in 2004. He has also mentored and coached numerous athletes who have gone to other triangle schools including Bryant Howard, Kevin Thompson, and Brian Feggins, who have had outstanding careers.
