NCCU Eagle-Nine Passed in Early Innings by Campbell

DURHAM, N.C. – The tone of the game between North Carolina Central University and Campbell was set in the early stages as the visitors raced ahead to a 15-4 win over the Eagles on Wednesday, May 10 at the Durham Athletic Park.

Campbell (22-26) built up its lead in the first two innings by scoring 10 unanswered runs.  The Camels scored eight in the second frame by sending 12 men to the plate with four hits, and capitalized on three errors.

NCCU (22-28) was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third following a two-run triple from Corey Joyce (Lexington, N.C.), and he was driven in in the next at bat by Ellington Hopkins (Lansing, N.Y.).  Joyce picked up this third RBI of the game in the seventh inning by bringing home Andrew Valichka (Pedricktown, N.J.) to score the Eagles' final run of the game.

Carter Williams (Brown Summit, N.C.) notched a game-high three hits for the Eagles, and scored a run as well in the contest.  Of note, Carter Kovalcik (Detroit, Mich.) entered from the bullpen in the ninth inning to pitch to his brother Conrad Kovalcik (Detroit, Mich.) who was having his Senior Day, and the tandem worked together to strike out the side.

NCCU is next on the road on Friday, May 12 to visit Norfolk State.
