NCCU Eagle-Nine Has Streak Snapped by Florida A&M

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University had its MEAC Southern Division win streak snapped at five games as Florida A&M took game three of the weekend series with a 17-5 final on Sunday, April 2 at the Durham Athletic Park.

FAMU (16-12, 6-3 MEAC) built up its lead in the first four innings with 10 unanswered runs for the cushion it needed for the contest.  The Rattlers scored four in the top of the second, followed by three in both the third and fourth frames.

NCCU (15-14, 7-5 MEAC) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a leadoff homer from Dominic Cuevas (Gurnee, Ill.), and then back-to-back doubles from Andrew Valichka (Pedricktown, N.J.) and Carter Williams (Brown Summit, N.C.) led to a second run in the frame.

The Eagles struck for another two runs in the bottom of the sixth once again on back-to-back doubles, this time with RBIs coming from Timmy Fischvogt (Kernersville, N.C.) and Zach Michalski (Belews Creek, N.C.).

The standout batter of the game was Aubrey McCarty (Doerun, Ga.) who was 5-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, seven RBI and four runs scored, and he was also the winning pitcher for the Rattlers.

NCCU was led by Williams and Michalski who both had a pair of hits and an RBI.  Also, freshman Tony Mejias (Miami, Fla.) picked up his first career hit in the bottom of the seventh and also came around to score in his first collegiate appearance.

The Eagles remain at home on Tuesday, April 4 against Presbyterian with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with free admission.
