DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – North Carolina Central University fell in its series finale with Bethune-Cookman as the Wildcats took the weekend sweep with a shortened 13-1 win at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Donte Lindsay (Cleveland, Ohio) pitched the full seven innings for B-CU (14-6, 4-2 MEAC) with just one hit and no earned runs.
B-CU again set the tone by scoring first with four runs in the bottom of the second with two of those runs on a double from Adonis Lao (Elmhurst, N.Y.) down the left field line. Lao picked up the next two runs for the Wildcats as well with a single in the bottom of the fourth. B-CU picked up another two runs on a single in the bottom of the fifth from Trent Nash (Decatur, Ga.).
NCCU (9-11, 2-4 MEAC) was able to get on the board in the top of the sixth as
Mitch McCrary (Mills Creek, N.C.) touched home with help from a Wildcat error.
B-CU again used a flurry of runs to put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the sixth with two-run hits from Austin Garcia (LaBelle, Fla.) and Nash.
Jake Raby (Granite Falls, N.C.) picked up the lone hit of the afternoon for the Eagles on a single up the middle in the top of the seventh.
The Eagles return home to the Durham Athletic Park to host Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division opponent Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday, March 22 at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.
