Eagles Score in Every Inning in Series-Clinching Win over Delaware State

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University baseball program posted a tally in all eight innings as it walked off with an 11-1 win over Delaware State in the bottom of the eighth to win the series on Sunday, May 9 at the Durham Athletic Park.

NCCU (21-18, 13-11 MEAC) hit six doubles in the game to tie for the second-most in a single game in the modern era at NCCU, a feat last accomplished on April 9, 2017 against UNCW.  Luis DeLeon (Providence, R.I.) had two of those doubles as he had his second three-hit game of the weekend with two RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases.  One of DeLeon's doubles was a "little league home run" when he made his way around the bases with help from a pair of defensive errors on the same play.

Eight of the nine Eagle starters scored at least one run, and all nine reached base safely.  Cameron Norgren (Cary, N.C.) picked up a single to extend his hitting streak to six games, and Nick Fajardo (Durham, N.C.) reached base five times and drove in two with three walks and an RBI double.

Robert Trujillo (Caracas, Venezuela) was responsible for the lone RBI for DSU (14-23, 12-15 MEAC) in the top of the sixth inning.

Shawn Runey (Daniel Island, S.C.) earned the win as he pitched five innings with just one earned run, one walk, and five strikeouts, and Scott Meylan (Pittsburg, Calif.) earned the win as he struck out five in the final three innings.  In total, the two Eagle pitchers racked up 10 strikeouts on the afternoon.

The Eagles will finish the regular season at home with a four-game series with Florida A&M that will begin on Thursday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park.
