North Carolina Central University Athletics

2020: Started all eight games he appeared in.  Collected five hits including two home runs to drive in seven RBI.  Hit a two-run home run to break a tie in the sixth inning against Niagara on Feb. 23 for his first career round-tripper.  Drove in three RBI against High Point on Feb. 25 with a two-RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

2019: Redshirted.

2018: Made 32 appearances with 23 starts, and batted .274 in his freshman year.  Tallied 26 hits with 13 RBI and seven doubles to slug .347.  Picked up his first career hit in the 10th inning of the season-opener against Wagner (Feb. 16) after entering as a pinch runner.  Had seven multi-hit games including two three-hit games.  Picked up three hits and two doubles with three RBI and two runs scored in a win against Norfolk State (March 27).

High School (Rolesville): Was a two-sport athlete, playing both baseball and soccer.  Was a Greater Neuse River All-Conference honoree in both sports.  Also gained all-conference academic honors.

Personal: Born May 12, 1998 in Arcadia, Florida.  Parents are Carlos and Stephanie Varela.  Enjoys playing basketball, collecting shoes, and listening to music.  Majoring in business management.
