DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University took a lead by way of a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning, but Youngstown State responded with three unanswered runs to even the weekend series with a 3-1 win over the Eagles on Saturday, March 7 at the Durham Athletic Park.
NCCU (5-10) scored first by way of
Michael Alicea's (Toa-Alta, Puerto Rico) first home run of the year in the bottom of the third, but YSU (6-6) responded immediately in the top of the fourth. Steven D'Eusanio (Willoughby, Ohio) pushed the Penguins ahead by way of a two-run home run, and then knocked an RBI single in the top of the fifth to give the guests a 3-1 advantage. D'Eusanio finished the game 2-for-3 with those three RBI.
That was all of the scoring for the game as both pitching staffed commanded well from the bump. Collin Floyd (Akron, Ohio) worked 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts in a winning effort for YSU, and
Caleb McRoy (Raleigh, N.C.) tossed a career-high seven strikeouts for the Eagles.
Alex Sniffen (Wilmington, N.C.) worked a career-high 5.1 innings in relief for NCCU, and fanned four batters without a walk.
Game three of the series will be on Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park. Admission is free.
