DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University junior catcher Conrad Kovalcik belted two home runs, a three-run blast in the first inning and a solo shot in the fifth, to spark the host Eagles to a 7-3 victory over Niagara University on Friday at Durham Athletic Park.
 
Junior center fielder Carlos Ortiz tallied two hits with an RBI double, a walk and a run scored to aid NCCU's offense, while junior left fielder Jacobi Harris also contributed a pair of hits.
 
NCCU starting pitcher Cameron Scalzo tossed 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with four strikeouts to earn the victory. Jamar Hinton pitched the final 3.2 frames without allowing a run to pick up the save.
 
Niagara second baseman Michael Fuhrman topped the visitors with two hits, including a double, and two runs scored.
 
NCCU (1-3) and Niagara (1-4) continue the four-game weekend series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m.  Admission to the Durham Athletic Park is free.
