DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University baseball redshirt sophomore
Ryan Miller has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for March 2021 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
Miller had a historic season for the Eagles, earning All-American honors by Collegiate Baseball after going 10-0 with a 2.24 ERA.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Pitcher of the Year set the NCCU modern era record in wins and led the league in ERA on his way to being selected Second Team Division I All-American by Collegiate Baseball. Miller was also recognized by Black College Nines as the Large School Division National Pitcher of the Year and was named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), which is awarded to the top player in college baseball.
The resident of Blandon, Pennsylvania, led the MEAC in innings pitched (73.1) and held opponents to a MEAC second-lowest .204 batting average. He also ranked four in the league with 74 strikeouts while adding a pair of complete game shutouts and a 1.05 WHIP.
Miller collected four MEAC Pitcher of the Week awards and posted a run of 23 consecutive innings without allowing an earned over his first four starts.
The MLB prospect boasts a 3.821 cumulative grade point average (GPA) through three years at NCCU. Miller is a recreation management major and is currently planning to play for the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer while also entering the 2021 MLB Draft set for July. He plans to become an athletic director or general manager for a sports team at the end of his playing days.
