TUCSON, Ariz. – North Carolina Central University sophomore
Ryan Miller (Blandon, Pa.) had a historic season with the Eagle baseball program, and he has been recognized as a Second Team Division I All-American by Collegiate Baseball, the outlet announced on Thursday, June 3.
Miller was named as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 2019, and is now the first Eagle to be recognized twice in a career by the organization. He is also the first Eagle to be named a postseason All-American in program history.
Miller is one of six student-athletes representing a North Carolina school among the three All-America teams, and is the only student-athlete from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Miller was voted as the 2021 MEAC Pitcher of the Year, and was recently recognized by Black College Nines as the Large School Division National Pitcher of the Year as well. Miller was also named as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), which is awarded to the top player in college baseball.
Miller set an NCCU modern era record in wins as he went 10-0, and posted a MEAC-best 2.24 ERA, which is a new regular-season record for starters at NCCU. He led the league in innings pitched (68.1) and also held opponents to a MEAC second-lowest .195 batting average.
Miller was a four-time MEAC Pitcher of the Week winner, including in back-to-back weeks when he threw consecutive complete game shutouts against Norfolk State on Feb. 27 and March 6. He also posted a run of 23 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run during his first four starts of the year.
