ATLANTA – North Carolina Central University junior golfer
Andre Jones had one of the best outings of his career at the Black College Hall of Fame Invitational on Sept. 29-30 at Browns Mill Golf Club in Atlanta, leading the Eagles to a seventh-place team finish.
A native of Durham, N.C., Jones carded an even-par round of 72 on Saturday followed by a 75 on Sunday to tally a career-low 36-hole score of 147 (+3), which positioned him in 15th place on the leaderboard.
NCCU newcomer
Glendon Mabe shot a 36-hole total of 153 (+9), including a 73 (+1) in the opening round, to finish in a tie for 29th place. Just one stroke behind Mabe was NCCU junior
Spencer Jones, whose low round of 76 helped him tie for 32nd place.
Two NCCU rookie golfers,
Michael Wilson and
Garreth Carpenter, placed 41st and 50th, respectively. Wilson shot a 160 (79, 81), while Carpenter posted a 166 (83, 83).
NCCU recorded an opening-round team score of 300, which equals the fifth lowest team score in the modern era of NCCU golf. The Eagles followed that up with a mark of 314 to place seventh in the 10-team field.
Up next for NCCU is a trip to Petersburg, Va., for the Virginia State Fall Classic at Dogwood Trace Golf Club on Oct. 15-16.
