RALEIGH, N.C. – Freshman
Iszac Bertagnole was the top individual for the North Carolina Central University men's golf team at the Stitch Intercollegiate hosted by North Carolina State University at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Friday-Saturday, April 12-13.
Bertagnole was the only Eagle to produce all three rounds in the 70s on a difficult golf course that played even more difficult with higher winds than usual throughout the two days. Bertagnole posted one of NCCU's top scorecards with a five-over 76 in the opening round and then carded match 79s over the final two rounds on the 7,134-yard, par-71 layout. Bertagnole finished in a six-way tie for 53rd place out of 81 total golfers with his 21-over par total of 234.
NC Central finished 12th place overall in its strongest field of the season, including three 'Power Five' programs from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The host Wolfpack won the team title while the tournament medalist was over par for their 54-total total score.
Other highlights for the Eagles included senior
Trey Morse improving his score each round to produce NCCU's second best result as an individual, freshman
Jamal Hutchison matching Bertagnole for NCCU's lowest round of the event with a 76 in Friday's second round, sophomore
Kyle Gregory signing for NCCU's best round of 77 in Saturday's difficult final round that was suspended for a few hours due to high winds, and freshman
Isar Joshi posting NCCU's only eagle with a 3 on the 578-yard, par-5 first hole in the second round.
NCCU will play its last regular season event before the Northeast Conference Championship by returning to the Wildcat Spring Invitational at LuLu Country Club in Glenside, Pennsylvania, on Monday-Tuesday, April 15-16.
