WESTON, Fla. – Freshman teammates Iszac Bertagnole and Jamal Hutchison tied for third place overall to lead the North Carolina Central University men's golf team to a second place finish out of six teams in the men's Division I competition of the inaugural Arcis HBCU Collegiate Golf Championship contested at The Club at Weston Hills on Sunday-Monday, Feb. 25-26.
 
The Eagles finished just two shots behind tournament champion Florida A&M University with a three-round team total of 14-over par 878. NCCU picked up wins against North Carolina A&T State University, Chicago State University, Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University.
 
Bertagnole and Hutchison each fired a two-under par round of 70 on the Players Course layout at Weston Hills on their way to matching 54-hole totals of even par 216. That freshman tandem tied for third place out of 30 DI golfers in the field. They each made 11 birdies in the tournament. Bertagnole carded an impressive five-under par 31 on the front side of his two-under round of 70 while Hutchison had NCCU's lone eagle.
 
NCCU's other three golfers were all within one shot of each other in helping NCCU secure the runner-up trophy. Sophomore Kyle Gregory and freshman Isar Joshi each supplied 11-over totals of 227 while senior Kendall Wallace was once stroke behind at 12-over 228.
 
Bertagnole and Hutchison were four shots behind the top-two individuals, who both turned in 54-hole totals of four-under par 212. Marcus Taylor won medalist honors for the Rattlers in a playoff that went two  holes.
 
The NC Central men's golf team is next scheduled to play in the Surf Club Invitational hosted by Appalachian State University at the Surf Golf & Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Monday-Tuesday, March 11-12.
