DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Kyle Gregory and junior Trey Morse tied for the best individual finishes representing the North Carolina Central University men's golf team at the 2023 Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Golf Championship contested at LPGA International on Sunday-Tuesday.
 
Gregory and Morse tied for 34th place out of the 49 golfers that took a swing in the three-day event with 54-hole totals of 24-over par 240. Gregory shot consistent rounds of 81, 79 and 80 and had a team-best six birdies. Morse supplied scorecards of 84, 76 and 80.
 
Junior Kendall Wallace struggled in the first round, but he improved each day and he produced NCCU's lowest round of the championship with a three-over par 75 on Tuesday. Wallace made three birdies in that loop around the 6,880-yard, par-72 Jones Course at LPGA International to finish four total shots behind Gregory and Morse in 38th place with his total of 90-79-75—244.
 
Freshman Kobe Narcisse followed Wallace's lead in improving each day, placing 40th with daily scores of 90, 80 and 78.
 
The Eagles fell behind the rest of the field after only turning in four scorecards on Sunday. NCCU was unable to track down any of the top-eight teams in the nine-team league tournament despite posting much-improved scores over the final two days.
 
Long Island University won the team title, holding off second-place Howard University by five strokes. Marcelo Mexsen paced the victorious Sharks with a four-under par score of 74-71-67—212 to win medalists honors.
