SHOAL CREEK, Ala. – Junior
Kendall Wallace and senior
Daniel Barbare both finished in the upper half of the field to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University men's golf team at the 2023 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship contested on two wonderful Alabama golf courses from Monday-Wednesday, May 8-10.
Wallace had NCCU's top position with rounds of 79, 74 and 75 for a 13-over par total of 228 that was good for a tie for 22nd overall. The 10 teams played the middle round on Tuesday at 6,861-yard, par-71 Bent Brooks Golf Course and Wallace had NCCU's best scorecard on that layout.
All 50 competitors in the NCAA Division I team competition played the 7,025-yard, par 72 Shoal Creek Club on Monday and Wednesday and Barbare was able to fire NCCU's low round of the tournament with an even par performance in the final round to finish just one shot behind Wallace. Barbare shot a three-under par 33 over his final nine holes of his collegiate career to finish tied for 24th with a 229 total that included rounds of 80, 77 and 72.
Freshman
Kyle Gregory matched Wallace with three rounds in the 70s for the Eagles. Gregory placed tied for 37th with a sum of 234 (76, 79, 79). Junior
Trey Morse (90-78-87—255) and freshman
Kobe Narcisse (85-82-92—259) both provided the maroon and gray with counting scores during the three-day event.
NCCU finished in 10th place. Howard University won the team competition with the only three players to shoot under-par totals.
