Kendall Wallace recorded a pair of top-10 finishes for the North Carolina Central University men's golf team at the inaugural Bridgestone HBCU Invitational contested at TPC Sugarloaf on Wednesday-Thursday, Nov. 1-2.
Hutchison shot a two-under par 70 in the second round to move up four positions and lead the Eagles with a tied for third place result. Hutchison started the competition with a three-over 75 on "The Stables and The Meadows" course that is host to the PGA TOUR Champions Mitsubishi Electric Championship before shooting the second lowest score of the final round to place tied for third overall. His one-over total of 145 was just four shots off the tournament medalist winning tally.
Hutchison, who resides from Fletcher, North Carolina, made eight birdies over the 36 holes on the way to his second top-5 finish in his first three collegiate stroke play competitions.
Wallace secured his second straight top-10 with consistent rounds of 76 and 74 as his six-over par 150 total was good for a tie for ninth place out of 47 golfers.
Freshman
Iszac Bertagnole also finished in the upper half of the field for the maroon and gray, finishing tied for 20th with a score of 80-75—155.
NC Central improved its team score by 18 strokes in the second round to move up three positions to finish in the middle of the pack with a fifth place team result out of nine teams. The Eagles collected wins against Tennessee State, Chicago State, Prairie View A&M and Morehouse.
The tournament is an element of the Bridgestone Collegiate Development Program, part of the PGA TOUR's Pathway to Progression, which aims to achieve greater diversity in golf through increased focus on developing talent from diverse and historically underrepresented groups.
On top of the competition, the tournament, benefiting the Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA), provided players with custom Bridgestone Golf ball fittings and included a career pathway panel featuring business leaders from throughout the sports world.
