The Eagles lost a pair of three-set matches at the Aggie/Phoenix Volley for University this past weekend to North Carolina A&T State University and UNCG. NCCU (0-6) will be hosting Campbell in its only home match in the month of September. The Eagles boast a 6-3 home record since the start of the 2021 fall season.
The freshmen duo of
Kamren Harper and
Tori Wilson are both averaging over 2.5 points per set to pace the maroon and gray through six matches. Harper has a team-best 2.53 kills per set while Wilson chips in 2.00 kills per set and a team-best 0.84 blocks per set. Another freshman in
Emmie Modlin is third on the team with 1.47 kills per set.
NCCU's next three top hitters are all averaging around one kill per set in senior
Daryn Armstrong (1.00), senior
Autumn DeSantis (0.94) and junior
Abby Vacha (0.92).
Sophomore
Vanila Pulu-Suliafu has been NCCU's primary setter this season and is contributing 6.53 assists per set. Pulu-Suliafu, who has reached double-digit assists in all six matches, also ranks second on the team with 2.26 digs per set.
Sophomore libero
Loren Johnson is providing team-best averages of 4.47 digs and 0.46 aces per set. Johnson, who has reached the 10-plus dig plateau in each of her last five matches, ranks second in the MEAC in digs per set.
Johnson and Pulu-Suliafu are both averaging 0.37 aces per set.
NCCU is 1-16 against Campbell in its modern era.
CAMPBELL VOLLEYBALL
The Camels lost a pair of matches at the Kentucky Invitational last weekend, falling to Indiana State in five sets on Friday before being swept by sixth-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday. Campbell (2-6) will be concluding a nine-match road swing to start the season when the Camels play in Durham on Tuesday.
Junior outside hitter Chloe Cook, a two-time All-Big South honoree, leads Campbell with 3.00 kills per set as she has reached double-digit kills in six of eight matches this season. Freshman Gwen Wolkow (2.03 KPS), senior Melody Paige (1.84 KPS) and senior Ananda Patterson (1.69 KPS) are Campbell's next top three attackers and they have all started every match this season.
Another two-time All-Big South honoree in junior defensive specialist Claranne Fechter is leading the Camels with averages of 3.75 digs and 0.50 aces per set.
Paige is netting 1.44 blocks per set, which is ranked 26th nationally and tops the Big South Conference.
