Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central battled archrival North Carolina A&T throughout their volleyball match but fell short 3-0 (21-25, 17-25, 17-25) at Corbett Sports Center on Thursday.
NCCU had its moments in a match highlighted by solid hits and impressive rallies in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Shalyn Bell and
Tabitha Newlin each registered five kills and combined for eight digs to lead a balanced attack.
Mya Smith and
Talia Emmen each collected four kills while
Aniah Bass recorded six digs.
Lusiana Damuni and
Breylan Fairley had 12 assists and 10 assists, respectively.
The Eagles started fast, leading 10-5 in the first set before A&T rallied. Both teams exchanged leads late in the set.
NCCU led for the final time at 21-20 on Bell's second straight kill. The Aggies responded with a 5-0 run to take the opening set.
The Eagles fell behind 15-8 in the second set on the way to falling into a 0-2 deficit. They regrouped in the third set, opening with a 5-2 lead. The Aggies eventually erased the margin to close out the match.
