Eagles Cap Four-Match Week With Loss To UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C – Shalyn Bell recorded 13 kills and Talia Emmen added 12 kills as North Carolina Central completed its four-match week with a 3-1 volleyball loss (18-25, 25-21, 19-25, 17-25) to UNC Greensboro at Bodford Arena on Saturday.

The match was the third in a row and the fourth in five days for the Eagles, who host Radford at home on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Bell has either led or tied the team in kills for the third straight match. Both Bell and Emmen totaled eight digs each while Allyson Rouse amassed six blocks for NCCU, which tied a season-high 11 blocks. The Eagles have posted double-digit blocks in three matches this season, already surpassing last year's total of two.

Aniah Bass, Bell and Rouse helped NCCU (2-6 overall) even the match at 1-1. Bell had seven kills, Bass added three kills and Rouse had two block assists as the Eagles collected six block assists in the set.

UNCG (5-3 overall) took the final two sets for the match, despite NCCU outhitting the Spartans .264 to .164 percent. The Spartans totaled 14 aces while NCCU committed 18 service errors.

Bass chipped in seven kills and five blocks and Breylan Fairley handed out 36 assists and seven digs for the Eagles. Hailey Gibbons had a team-high nine digs and Isabella Rodriguez chipped in eight digs.
