DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University scored the last four runs of the game unanswered from the fifth to seventh inning, and defeated Presbyterian, 4-1, on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Durham Athletic Park.
PC (2-6) scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning on a double by Kyle Decker (Fletcher, N.C.), and that put the Blue Hose ahead, 1-0. NCCU (3-7) was able to pull level in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice from
Trey Maslin (Franklin, N.C.), and then broke into the lead in the bottom of the sixth with two runs scored on an error and an RBI groundout by
Jacob Raby (Granite Falls, N.C.).
The Eagles capped the scoring in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run by
Luis DeLeon (Providence, R.I.) who homered for the second time in as many days to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead. That was DeLeon's third home run of the season, and his third consecutive game with an extra base hit.
Jonathan Peacock (Goldsboro, N.C.) earned the win in relief, and
Brendan Bell (Arlington, Texas) struck out a pair in the ninth inning to lock down his second save of the year.
Decker finished with two doubles for PC, and Hunter Grover (Summerville, S.C.) picked up a pair of hits with a double.
NCCU will host Saint Joseph's on Friday, Feb. 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park to start a three-game weekend series.
