NCCU's Williams Passes 200 Career Hits against Saint Joseph's

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Carter Williams (Brown Summit, N.C.) collected his 200th career hit in the series opener against Saint Joseph's, however the Hawks took the contest, 5-1, on Friday, Feb. 28 at the Durham Athletic Park.

Williams singled into right field in his first at bat in the bottom of the first inning to reach the milestone, and later singled again in his next at bat to finish with a pair of knocks in the contest.

SJU (4-4) put two runs on the board in the top of the first as it took advantage of an error, and the Hawks were able to hold the advantage for the rest of the contest.  SJU led 5-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning, where NCCU (3-8) brought in a run by way of Myles Coston (Pittsburg, Calif.).

Starting pitching ruled the evening, as both starters combined for 18 strikeouts over 12 innings of work.  Ryan Miller (Blandon, Pa.) tossed eight strikeouts over six frames, but Jordan DiValerio (Nescopeck, Pa.) won the duel with 10 punchouts over six innings on the way to the win.

Luis DeLeon (Providence, R.I.) also had a two-hit game for the Eagles, and he's now on a 10-game hitting streak.
