Eagles Sprint Ahead Early in Win over Morgan State

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University was able to pull away from Morgan State early thanks to 55 points in the first half of play on the way to a 92-64 victory over the Bears on Monday, Jan. 21 at McDougald-McLendon Arena.

NCCU (9-10, 4-1 MEAC) put its foot on the gas pedal early and went on an explosive 21-4 run over five minutes of play in the first half, driven by Randy Miller Jr. (Odenton, Md.)  Miller made four three-pointers during that run, and actually made his first five triples and first seven total shots from the floor as he went to the locker room with 21 points.  He went on to make two more treys in the second half to finish with a game-high 27 points with seven made threes.  Miller is the first Eagle to make seven or more three-pointers in a contest since Patrick Cole against North Carolina A&T on Jan. 28, 2017, when he made eight.

The Eagles as a team out-scored MSU (7-12, 2-4 MEAC) 55-27 in the first half, and held the Bears to just 36.7 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

A total of five Eagles reached double-figures, and there were a pair of double-doubles as Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) collected 16 points and 18 rebounds, and Zacarry Douglas (Landover, Md.) went for 15 points and 10 boards.  Larry McKnight Jr. (North Miami, Fla.) also reached 15 points, and Reggie Gardner Jr. (Bowie, Md.) put up 11.  Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) dished out a game-high eight assists along with five points and four caroms.

Two players shared team-high scoring honors for Morgan State as both Sherwyn Devonish-Prince Jr. (Bladensburg, Md.) and Martez Cameron (Chicago, Ill.) finished with 12 points.  David Syfax (Detroit, Mich.) was close behind with 10 points of his own.

The Eagles will finish up their three-game home stand on Saturday, Jan. 26 as North Carolina A&T will travel east to McDougald-McLendon Arena.  The men's game will tip off approximately at 4:00 p.m. on FloSports and the NCCU Sports Network following the conclusion of the women's contest.
