Eagles Clipped Late by Coppin State

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University and Coppin State went to the half tied at 28, and with the game again tied at 58 with just a minute-and-a-half remaining, CSU took the lead on a late three-pointer and took a heart-breaking 64-60 win over NCCU on Saturday, Jan. 19 at McDougald-McLendon Arena.

Neither team led by double-digits over the contest, with the largest lead belonging to NCCU (8-10, 3-1 MEAC) at seven points in the second half.  CSU (3-17, 3-2 MEAC) showed its resiliency all game as Chad Andrews-Fulton (Philadelphia, Pa.) fought through in the paint to put in a layup right before the half to send the two teams to the locker room tied at 28 after the first 20 minutes.

Larry McKnight Jr. (North Miami, Fla.) was a big factor in the contest for NCCU as he put up 12 of his career- and game-high 22 points in the second half, including a layup to put the Eagles up 58-56 with 1:45 remaining.  However, it was Lamar Morgan (Willingboro, N.J.) who had the final say in the game as he hit a tough corner three with just 34 seconds remaining to put CSU ahead, and their defense was able to hold firm to finish the game.

Jibri Blount (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was similarly effective for the Eagles with 13 of his 21 points in the second period as well, as he connected three times from the perimeter in the contest.  Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) collected his sixth double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the maroon and gray.

Morgan finished with 15 points on four made treys, and Dejuan Clayton (Bowie, Md.) put up a team-high 16 points.  Andrews-Fulton capped his day with eight points and a team-high nine boards for CSU.

NCCU will return to the hardwood on Monday, Jan. 21 against Morgan State with a 4:00 p.m. tipoff following the women's basketball contest at 2:00 p.m.  The game will also be carried online on FloSports, visit FloSports.tv for more information.
