CLEMSON, S.C. –North Carolina Central University ran into a cold spell in the second half and #22 Clemson used that to its advantage to pull away for a 71-51 win at Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 9.
NCCU (0-1) held tight with Clemson (2-0) in the first half, as the Eagles knocked down three of their first four three-point attempts to open the game.
Larry McKnight Jr. (North Miami, Fla.) knocked down his first two and started the game 3-for-3 from the floor to lead all scorers with eight points at the intermission.
David Skara (Zadar, Croatia) and Aamir Simms (Palmyra, Va.) worked together to have a joint team-high seven points for the Tigers at the half, as Clemson pushed ahead to take a 40-20 lead at the midway point. Skara and Simms traded the team scoring lead, but eventually Skara finished with a game-high 16 points.
Zacarry Douglas (Landover, Md.) was an inside force for the Eagles as he finished with his first career double-double at NCCU with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) scored 10 of his team-high 14 points in the second half, and
Randy Miller Jr. (Odenton, Md.) scored all 10 of his points after the break and added five rebounds as well.
Simms finished with 14 points for Clemson, and Shelton Mitchell (Waxhaw, N.C.) was the third Tiger in double-digits with 11 points and a team-high four assists.
The Eagles will continue on the road as they head to Cincinnati next on Nov. 13, before visiting Bowling Green on Nov. 15. NCCU will play its first home game on Nov. 18 against Warren Wilson at McDougald-McLendon Arena at 7:00 p.m., visit NCCUEaglePride.com for ticket information.
