DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University outhit Charleston Southern University by double, but the Buccaneers were able to make a lone run in the first inning stand up to get by the Eagles 1-0 on Senior Day at the Durham Athletic Park on May 11.

Charleston Southern (17-29) picked up the only run of the game on an RBI single from Sly Edwards (Miami Lake, Fla.), and that run went down as unearned for
Christian Gonnelli (Lebanon, Conn.).
After that single, Gonnelli retired the next 14 consecutive batters, and went through 19-straight at bats without allowing another hit.
NCCU (24-28) had a few opportunities to score, with the biggest coming in the seventh inning.
Conrad Kovalcik drove a ball deep into the gap in right center and the runner from first was waved all the way home from first, but was tagged out at the plate to keep the Eagles off the board.
The Eagles finish with 16 wins at home, and that is the second most in the modern era. NCCU faces Delaware State University to open the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Championships, and that game will be played on Thursday, May 19 at 3:30 p.m.
