Eagles Post Strong Fourth-Place Finish at Lady Bison Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The North Carolina Central women's golf team opened the spring season with a strong showing in the Lady Bison Invitational on Tuesday.
 
Five golfers placed in the upper half of the individual standings as the Eagles finished fourth out of 13 squads in the two-day tournament at Hawkstone Country Club. NCCU posted a three-round score of 938 on the par 71, 5,908-yard course layout which was better than all but three schools - team champion Albany (N.Y.) (890), runner-up Howard (904) and Youngstown State (908). The Eagles finished ahead of Maryland Eastern Shore, which shot a 946 to place fifth.
 
Individually, Sanaa Carter led NCCU with a 234 to tie for 18th place and Aubree Clements was one stroke behind at 235 to place 21st. Sidney Renville shot a 237 to tie for 24th, Mya Smith carded a 239 to tie for 29th and Cailynn Winford fired a 242 to tie for 34th.
 
Overall, sixty-seven golfers played in the tournament. Thantita Aungsuseewong of Albany earned medalist honors with a 215.
 
After opening with a first-round score of 316, the Eagles improved with a second-round score of 310 later that day and a 312 in the third round Tuesday.
 
NEXT UP
The Eagles will compete in the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va., on March 23-24.
