Eagles Secure Bid To Play in PGA WORKS Women’s Championship

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central gained a bid to compete in the women's division of the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship golf tournament, which will be held Monday through Wednesday (May 4-6) in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Competition will be held in five divisions – Men's DI and DII Team, Women's Team and Men's and Women's Individual at the Park at West Palm course. The Golf Channel will provide live event coverage from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

The women will play 54 holes on the par 71, 5,806-yard layout with tee times starting Monday and Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. and Tuesday at 12 p.m. Six teams qualified for the women's field including Alabama State, Chicago State, North Carolina A&T, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas Southern in addition to NCCU.

A successful spring season earned the Eagles a PGA WORKS tournament berth. NCCU placed a program-best third in the NEC Championship in April and three Eagles – Sanaa Carter, Cailynn Winford and Aubree Clements – finished among the top 16 golfers with Carter leading the way. She finished sixth to garner All-Tournament honors and later made the NEC All-Conference team.

The trio in addition to Mya Smith and Sidney Renville rounds out the NCCU team that will play in Florida.
