SUWANEE, Ga. – Sanaa Carter of North Carolina Central fired a one-under-par 71 to win the women's division of the Thomas W. Dortch Jr. HBCU Collegiate Golf Classic at Bear's Best Golf Course on Monday. Tuesday's second round was canceled due to inclement weather.
Led by Carter's performance, the Eagles placed second in the eight-team tournament with a 301, finishing five strokes behind winner Jackson State and 12 strokes ahead of third-place Texas Southern.
The victory is the first for Carter in an already stellar career. Last year, Carter was named HBCU Freshman Golfer of the Year by the Black College Golf Coaches Association as well as landing on the HBCU All-America and All-Freshman teams.
Carter finished one stroke ahead of runner-up Jannel Calixterio of Jackson State. She led three Eagles who placed in the top 10 of the 38-player field.

Josefina Rendo both carded a 76 to tie for seventh while
Mya Smith fired a 78 to tie for 12
th.
Cailynn Winford shot a 79 to tie for 17
th.
