WESTON, Fla. – Mateo Zolezzi of North Carolina Central placed second following a two-man playoff in the Arcis HBCU Division I Championship at The Club in Weston Hills on Monday.
The second-place finish marks Zolezzi's best this season. Zolezzi previously finished fourth last fall in the SAS Championship HBCU Invitational.
On Monday, Zolezzi tied Phalatphon Viboonviriyasakul of Florida A&M after 54 holes in two days, forcing a playoff. Both golfers shot a four-over 184 through three rounds before Zolezzi lost the playoff on the first hole.
Hershal Patel of NCCU tied for 12
th individually with a 15-over 195 in the 25-golfer field. The layout was a par 72, 6,886-yard course.
In the team standings, NCCU was fifth out of five teams with a 61-over 781. Florida A&M shot a 39-over 759 to win the tournament.
