Hidalgo Vega Garners End-of-Year ITA Regional Ranking

DURHAM, N.C. – Hugo Hidalgo Vega of North Carolina Central's men's tennis team ended his college career in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's regional rankings for singles play. The graduate took the 18th spot in the Carolina region's end-of-year rankings, a first for NCCU.

"The ITA Rankings Algorithm is based on an accumulation of win points and loss points, accounting for a win-loss record, the strength of schedule, and the depth/significance of wins and losses," as stated on ITA's website.

Hidalgo Vega is among 19 other student-athletes ranked in North and South Carolina and is the only representative in the region from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Rounding out the list are three opponents from the SEC, one from the CAA, and 15 from the ACC, which includes five players from Wake Forest, the 2025 National Champions.

During the spring season, Hidalgo Vega earned NCCU's first-ever national ranking in singles in the Division I era at 111th after defeating the 38th-ranked player at the time. He finished the season with a 15-5 record and All-MEAC First Team honors.
