GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina Central men's tennis team traveled to the Spartan Fall Invitational, hosted by UNC Greensboro, on Sept. 11-13. The Eagles faced the host Spartans, as well as Southern Mississippi.
On the opening day, NC Central faced Southern Miss in singles, with three new Eagles picking up victories. Sergio Lopez and Angel Maffezzoli earned straight-set wins against the Golden Eagles, while Lucas Hartley claimed a victory in one of two matches against UNCG.
The rest of the Eagles met up with UNCG on the second day of competition, earning three more singles victories, including a pair of tough tiebreak finishes. Maffezzoli and Hartley each notched their second wins of the tournament, while Adrian Nedelcu earned his first victory in Maroon and Gray.
NCCU also competed in doubles, once again facing Southern Miss. Lopez and Mark Nawa recorded the Eagles' lone doubles victory, defeating Jay Temming and Matei Varbanciu, 6-4.
The Eagles now turn their attention to the HBCU National Tennis Championships, Sept. 17-20, as the defending champions look to retain their crown in Atlanta.
