GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central's tennis program will be named the USTA North Carolina 2026 Member Organization of the Year.

Each year, this honor is presented to a tennis organization that has made "incredible contributions to tennis in North Carolina," including outstanding service to the local community, its members and the game of tennis.

"I am so delighted and honored for NCCU to receive such a distinct honor from the United States Tennis Association – North Carolina," said NCCU Director of Tennis D. Curtis Lawson. "Of all the tennis organizations in the state — including colleges, country clubs, city parks and recreation departments, and tennis associations — for our NCCU tennis program to be recognized speaks volumes about our community engagement efforts and unwavering commitment to promoting the game of tennis."

The NCCU Tennis Courts are recognized as a USTA/ITA Collegiate Community Hub, welcoming local community tennis organizations such as the Durham Orange Community Tennis Association, Eno Valley Community Tennis Association and Love to Serve Community Tennis Association. USTA leagues have also utilized the Nest, as have NCCU students enrolled in physical education courses.

NC Central Tennis will formally receive the honor later this month at the USTA North Carolina Community Development Workshop Awards Luncheon.
