NCCU’s Palencia Named MEAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – For the first time this season, sophomore Patricia Palencia of the North Carolina Central women's tennis team was named the MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday.

In the Eagles' only match last week, Palencia won her No.4 Singles match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 over South Carolina State's Ashikha Amalnathan. Her victory gave NCCU its only point in the 6-1 loss versus the Bulldogs.

The Barquisimeto, Venezuela native moves to 4-1 in singles when facing conference opponents. Palencia is one of two Eagles with double-digit singles victories on the season, along with Alejandra Hidalgo Vega. Palencia is 11-5 so far this season in singles.

The Maroon & Gray wraps up MEAC play hosting Norfolk State on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at the Cary Tennis Park. NC Central has only four regular-season matches remaining.
