DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central will be one of 12 teams vying for the Northeast Conference (NEC) women's golf title in Williamsburg, Va., this weekend.
The championship tournament begins Friday, April 11, and concludes Sunday, April 13, with a team and individual winner. The competitors will play 54 holes through three rounds at Kingsmill Resort Plantation Course. The top 10 individual finishers will earn all-tournament honors.

The Eagles, picked fifth in the preseason coaches' poll, will compete against Chicago State, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Le Moyne, Long Island, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Mercyhurst, Saint Francis, Stonehill and Wagner. Three-time defending champion Sacred Heart is no longer in the conference, but Howard and Fairleigh Dickinson are the preseason favorites.
Last season,
Trinity Ahing tied for sixth individually as the Eagles placed eighth out of 12 teams in the championship. Both Ahing and
Cailynn Winford have led the Eagles this season.
Ahing was named NEC Prime Performer of the Week after tying for 11th out of 57 golfers at the Lady Bison Invitational. Winford won both NEC Golfer of the Week and Prime Performer of the Week after tying for 22nd out of 65 golfers at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate. Both the Lady Bison Invitational and the Kingsmill Intercollegiate were held in March.
NCCU is familiar with the Kingsmill Resort Plantation Course, having played there in two of four spring matches this season. The Eagles competed against William & Mary in a match play event and participated in the Kingsmill Intercollegiate tournament.
