SOMERSET, N.J. - Cailynn Winford of North Carolina Central was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, March 26, after her performance at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
In addition to winning the top weekly golfer award, Winford was named one of two NEC Women's Prime Performers of the Week. She finished tied for 22
nd out of 65 golfers after firing a three-round 16-over 232 score on the par 72, 5,924-yard course layout at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
Winford recovered from a 10-over 82 in the first round to shoot consecutive three-over 75 scores in the second and third rounds in the two-day tournament, held Monday and Tuesday in Williamsburg, Va. Her stroke average was 77.3.
This is the first NEC Golfer of the Week award for Winford and the first for the NCCU women's golf team this season.
