STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The North Carolina Central University women's golf team won the 39th annual Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. HBCU Golf Classic this past Monday and Tuesday at the Stone Mountain Golf Course.
The Eagle men finished sixth in the team standings.
The Eagle women finished 15 shots better than second-place Chicago State, coming home at a combined 53-over in the two-round event.
Freshman
Mya Smith finished second, thanks largely to an even-par 71 in Tuesday's second round. That, combined with her first-round 81, gave her a 152. Junior
Aubree Clements also finished in the top five for N.C. Central, coming in fourth (155=78-77).
Senior
Trinity Ahing gave the Eagles three top-five finishers, coming in fifth after shooting a 156 (80-76).
Sophomore
Josefina Rendo (159=79-80) was eighth, and junior
Sidney Renville (163=84-79) came in a tie for 11th.
For the men, sophomore
Isar Joshi led the men with a fourth-place finish with a 36-hole total of 147 (74-73). Nineteen of Joshi's last 22 rounds have been in the 70s.
Sophomore
Jamal Hutchison was tied for 12th with a 150 (74-76), while junior
Kobe Narcisse also finished in the top 20, coming in tied for 19th (153=80-73). Narcisse's second-round 73 is his best career round.
Junior
Kyle Gregory (T-26th, 156=77-79) and sophomore
Jalen Brown (36th, 176=88-88) rounded out the Eagle men.
Both Eagle squads will return to action on Oct. 12-13, when they compete in the SAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C.
