DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University sophomores Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Candice Bernier were both named 2024 All-MEAC selections. Hidalgo Vega garnered First Team All-MEAC honors for the second year, while Bernier was named to the All-MEAC Second Team announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Wednesday evening. 

Hidalgo Vega (Madrid, Spain) won 13 singles matches this season, competing in the No.1 Singles position in all but two matches. She dominated in both conference and non-conference play. Some of her non-conference victories include Radford, Campbell, Wofford, UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb.

Bernier (Bordeaux, France) was 10-8 in singles competition this spring winning all six conference matches playing in the No.3 Singles spot. Outside of conference competition, some of Bernier's victories include Radford, Hampton and UNC Wilmington.

The MEAC also announced the 2023-24 Tennis All-Academic selections. Bernier and Hidalgo Vega were two of the 59 student-athletes named. Joining them from NCCU were senior Jade Houston and junior Kennedy Hill. 

NC Central (6-14, 3-3 MEAC) begins the postseason on Thursday, April 25 as the 2024 MEAC Tennis Championships get underway. The fifth-seeded Eagles open the event with an 8 a.m. match against No.4 Morgan State University at the Cary Tennis Park.
