DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Redshirt sophomore
Olivia Renville posted a top-25 finish to secure the top individual result for the North Carolina Central University women's golf team in the 2023 NEC Women's Golf Championship contested at LPGA International from Sunday-Tuesday, April 23-25.
After carding an 82 in the opening round,
Olivia Renville moved up her position each of the next two rounds with back-to-back 77s on the Hills Course at LPGA International that was playing as a 6,117-yard, par-72. Her 20-over par total of 236, which included a team-best six birdies, positioned her into a three-way tie for 21st place out of 57 golfers.
NC Central women's golf was making its debut in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship and finished in ninth place out of 11 teams, ending its season with wins over Stonehill College and University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Sacred Heart University led all three days on the way to repeating as champions. The victorious Pioneers were led by tournament medalist Chantal El Chaib and runner-up senior Kailee Welch. El Chaib was the only player in the field to shoot under par for the three-day event, firing a 54-hole total of one-under par 72-71-72—215 to edge her teammate by one stroke.
The Eagles also received counting scores each day from freshman
Sidney Renville (80-88-83—251/T-35th), junior
Jalea Culliver (90-81-84—255/T-41st) and sophomore
Zoe Key (90-83-100—255/46th).
