DICKSON, Tenn. – Junior Jalea Culliver and freshman Sidney Renville tied for seventh place to lead the North Carolina Central University women's golf team to a third place finish out of five teams at the Starks Invitational hosted by Tennessee State University at GreyStone Golf Club on Monday-Tuesday, March 6-7.
Culliver carded matching rounds of nine-over par 81 on the 5,892-yard, par-72 layout located near Nashville and has hosted numerous noteworthy professional and amateur events since opening a quarter century ago. Sidney Renville matched Culliver with a 36-hole total of 162 with rounds of 82 on Monday and 80 on Tuesday as they finished in a three-way tie for seventh out of 34 golfers.
Culliver now has three top-10 results in her first season with the Eagles while Sidney Renville collected her second top-10 placement of her rookie campaign.
Redshirt sophomore Olivia Renville fired NCCU's best round of the two-day event by signing for a seven-over par 79 in Tuesday's final round. It was just one of 14 rounds turned in out of 68 scorecards that was in the 70s. Olivia Renville moved up to a tie for 11th place in the individual leaderboard, three shots behind Culliver and her sister with her total of 165 after improving her daily score by seven strokes from the first to second rounds.
Sophomore Zoe Key also provided the maroon and gray with counting scores to NCCU's team total and she finished in the middle of the pack with rounds of 85 and 92 for a 177 total.
NCCU improved its teams score by two swings in the final round and moved past Chicago State University to claim third place. The Eagles also got a team victory over University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Bethune-Cookman University won the team title by seven strokes over the host Tigers. NCCU was 23 shot behind the Wildcats in third place.
Chicago State's Montserrat Ramirez won individual medalist honors with a total of 74-78—152.
NC Central is next scheduled to play in the Lady Tiger Spring Invitational hosted by Savannah State University on Sunday-Monday, March 12-13.
