Loren Johnson was selected MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference late Monday.
Johnson's 30 kills in Sunday's home match against Coppin State matched NCCU's NCAA Division I era (since 2007) program record of 30 digs recorded by Melissa Rabell Pineiro against Bethune-Cookman University on Oct. 5, 2014.
The Charlotte, North Carolina, resident started the week with a big 23-dig performance in a five-set MEAC home victory over Morgan State University on Friday.
Johnson averaged 5.3 digs per set for the week and she has reached double-digit digs in 11 of NCCU's first 13 matches this season. Johnson's average of 4.1 digs per set on the season ranks second in the league.
In her second season with the maroon and gray, Johnson is also one of NCCU's best servers and she launched 10 aces in the two five-set matches last week for an average of 1.0 aces per set.
NC Central will next play at MEAC foe University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday at 6 p.m.
