DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman
Kennedy Hill secured her team-leading seventh singles victory to account for the only team point for the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team in a 6-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) home loss to South Carolina State University on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs swept doubles and then won five of their six singles matches to remain ahead of the Eagles in the league standings. South Carolina State improved to 5-7 on the season and 3-2 in the MEAC. NCCU slipped to 3-11 and 1-4.
Hill needed three sets to clinch her No. 2 singles triumph. Hill outlasted Teodora Vujicic by a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Hill, who hails from Tyrone, Georgia, moved over .500 on the season at 7-6 and in conference clashing at 3-2.
One other singles match went three sets on court four. In that close match where all three sets were decided by just two games, SCSU's Nalanda Silva edged freshman
Isabelle Exsted by a tally of 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.
NCCU sophomore
Jade Houston took the court against the reigning MEAC Player of the Year in Rachida Berjane and lost 7-5, 6-2.
NC Central will continue its three-match home stand by hosting East Carolina University in a rescheduled match on Wednesday, March 30 at 2 p.m.
