NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University men's basketball junior
Eric Boone (Lexington, Ky.) provided big contributions on both offense and defense, and earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Warren Wilson, Morgan State, and Coppin State, the league announced on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Boone averaged 8.3 points per game, along with 5.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 4.7 steals per outing in the Eagles' last three games. He swiped away a season-high six steals at MSU in the comeback win for NCCU (12-10, 6-2 MEAC), and pulled away five steals against WWC. He also posted game-highs in assists with six against WWC and MSU.
Boone is averaging 8.0 points per game this season, and leads the Eagles with 3.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game. He is also second in the MEAC in both assists and steals.
This is the first weekly award for Boone this season, and the fifth total award for NCCU men's basketball this campaign. Boone is also the fourth Eagle to be named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, following
Cameron Butler (Chicago, Ill.),
Kris Monroe (Raleigh, N.C.), and
Justin Wright (Greenville, N.C.).
The Eagles will return home to host Delaware State on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 4:00 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
