NCCU’s Johnson Lands Spot in HBCU All-Star Game

ATLANTA – North Carolina Central men's basketball guard Dionte Johnson has been selected to play in the fifth annual HBCU All-Star Game. The event will take place during Final Four weekend on Sunday, April 5, at Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana, with tipoff set for 2 p.m.

Johnson is one of 24 players competing in the contest, all of whom represent Division I and II HBCU programs. The two teams are named after HBCU legends Bob Dandridge and Sam Jones, who is also an NCCU great.

Team Sam Jones features student-athletes from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA). The team will be coached by Reggie Theus of Bethune-Cookman and Devin Hoehn of Fayetteville State.

Team Bob Dandridge is composed of players from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). That squad will be led by Nolan Smith of Tennessee State and Larry Dixon of Morehouse.

Both teams also include players from HBCU programs that do not compete in all-HBCU conferences, including Tennessee State, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T. The game will air live on Indianapolis' WISH-TV and the BET Fast Channel.

The Bronx, New York, native closed out his senior season averaging 8.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. He finished second in the MEAC in assists per game and led the conference in steals. Johnson also earned MEAC All-Defensive Team and All-Tournament Team honors after helping lead the Eagles to their first championship game appearance since 2019.

Johnson becomes the sixth Eagle to participate in the HBCU All-Star Game, joining Fred Cleveland Jr. (2024), Ja'Darius Harris (2024), Brendan Medley-Bacon (2023), Randy Miller Jr. (2022), and C.J. Keyser (2021).
