DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis program will host its largest field to-date on Oct. 7-9 for the Seventh Annual NCCU Invitational at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts.
 
Nine institutions, including NCCU, will compete in the event: Chowan, Davidson, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T, Radford, Shaw, Tennessee State, and Western Carolina.
 
The field features 55 student-athletes in three singles flights, and 27 doubles pairings in two doubles flights.
 
The Eagles will have four student-athletes competing in singles.  Alejandra Hidalgo Vega (Madrid, Spain) is slated to compete in the A flight on Friday, Oct. 7 at 1:00 p.m., and Maria Picazo Martin (Madrid, Spain) will take the court at the same time in the B flight.  Lafi Joao (Gaithersburg, Md.) will start her weekend in the C flight at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, and Isabelle Exsted (Savage, Minn.) will meet her first opponent at 7:00 p.m.
 
Hidalgo Vega and Picazo Martin will team up in the A flight in doubles, and Joao along with Exsted will pair in the B flight.
 
The tournament will begin on Friday, Oct. 7, with two rounds of doubles, and will continue with the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds in the morning of Saturday, Oct. 7.  Doubles play will begin on Saturday afternoon, and the final rounds of both singles and doubles will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8.
