WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team sent two doubles pairings and one singles entrant to the 2022 ITA Carolina Regional at the Wake Forest Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Oct. 13-17, and faced one of its strongest fields of the season.
 
NCCU competed alongside both ACC and SEC opponents over the five-day event, and battled hard.  Kennedy Hill (Tyrone, Ga.) was the lone singles entrant for the Eagles, and she faced Nevena Carton of Wake Forest to start the event in the A2 draw.  Hill was defeated, 6-1, 6-0, by Carton who went on to advance to the quarterfinals.  Hill next competed in the consolation bracket, but fell, 6-2, 6-2, to Kaavya Sawney of UNC Charlotte, who also advanced to the quarterfinals of the draw.
 
Maria Picazo Martin (Madrid, Spain) and Alejandra Hidalgo Vega (Madrid, Spain) teamed up in the A1 doubles draw, and faced Lucie Petruzelova and Emma Wilkins of UNC Charlotte in their first match.  The Eagle pairing was defeated, 8-0, by the duo who would move on to the quarterfinal round.  In the consolation bracket, Picazo Martin/Hidalgo Vega were tripped up, 8-1, by Mckenzie Davis and Valentina De Sousa of Presbyterian, who also moved on to the quarterfinals.
 
In the A2 draw, Lafi Joao (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Isabelle Exsted (Savage, Minn.) joined together to face Sawhney and Ruxi Schech of UNC Charlotte.  Exsted/Joao were defeated, 8-1, by the pair who ended up one match away from the championship round.  Exsted/Joao then faced Claudia Sanchez Quesada and Lucianna Piedra of Presbyterian, but were outlasted by a score of 8-3 by the eventual semifinalists.
 
The Eagles have now concluded the fall portion of the schedule, and will next prepare for spring competition.
