DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University baseball program will play a split weekend series with Norfolk State on Feb. 27 and 28, starting with a doubleheader at the Durham Athletic Park on Saturday, Feb. 27 that will begin at 1 p.m. The Eagles and Spartans will finish the series on Sunday, Feb. 28 with a single game at Marty Miller Field in Norfolk, Virginia at 1:00 p.m.
NSU leads the series, 18-10, and this is the first meeting between the two schools since the 2019 season. The Eagles won three of the four matchups in 2019, and are currently on a two-game win streak in the series. Saturday's games will be broadcast live on the NCCU Sports Network, and Sunday's game will be available at NSUSpartans.com. Live stats will also be available at NCCUEaglePride.com.

Scouting the Eagles:
After sweeping Army to start the 2021 campaign, the Eagles fell in a high-scoring affair at Longwood, 22-14 on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
Luis DeLeon (Providence, R.I.) earned MEAC Player of the Week honors to start the year and is currently top-five in the league at the plate with a .417 batting average, .833 slugging percentage, and .579 on-base percentage, and has tripled in back-to-back games. DeLeon is currently seventh in the nation in RBI with nine in the first four games, and
Nick Fajardo (Durham, N.C.) leads the nation in walks with seven. Eagle reliever
Scott Meylan (Pittsburg, Calif.) earned MEAC Pitcher of the Week honors last week as well after locking up a three-inning save by striking out eight of the nine batters he faced, and struck out the first five he saw.
Scouting the Spartans:
Norfolk State fell in a four-game series with Old Dominion to start the year, and are led by MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, Alsander Womack (Waxhaw, N.C.). Womack is top-10 in the MEAC with a .313 batting average, .500 slugging percentage, and .389 on-base percentage. The Spartans are 13th in the nation in stolen bases with eight, and Ty Hanchey (Norfolk, Va.) is 2-for-2 in his attempts to start the year.
