Eagles Rock the Rim against Apprentice

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University got it done inside against The Apprentice School, as the Eagles racked up 52 points in the paint on the way to a 96-56 win over the Builders on Saturday, Nov. 27 inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.

NCCU (2-4) led for the entirety of the contest, and compiled a 52-24 lead at the intermission.  The Eagles once again shot well from the floor in the first half, as they shot 55.9 percent from the field, and 54.5 percent from the arc.  The Eagles cooled off after the break, but still shot 50.0 percent for the game to make it back-to-back games to reach that mark of scoring efficiency.

For the second consecutive game, NCCU had six student-athletes reach double-digits in scoring.  Samuel Keita (London, England) put in 13 points with five boards, and Cameron Butler (Chicago, Ill.) also reached 13 points with a joint game-high seven rebounds.  Randy Miller Jr. (Odenton, Md.) contributed 12 points with four assists, followed by Kris Monroe (Raleigh, N.C.) with 11 points and six rebounds, and Justin Wright (Greenville, N.C.) who finished one-point shy of his career high with 11 points and four steals.

Wright's four thefts led NCCU as it recorded a new team season-high with 17 steals, and the Eagles forced AS (3-3) into a total of 21 turnovers.

Karee Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all scorers with 16 points for the Builders, while Marion Moore (Hampton, Va.) tied for the game high with seven rebounds and chipped in six points.

NCCU will now prepare for its second four-game road trip of the year, which starts on Monday, Nov. 29 at Gardner-Webb.
