NCCU's DeLeon Repeats as MEAC Baseball Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University junior Luis DeLeon stayed hot over the last five games, and he's earned back-to-back Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors as a result, the conference office announced on Monday, March 2.

DeLeon collected two hits in all five games against High Point, Presbyterian, and Saint Joseph's, and he recorded a .476 batting average (10-for-21) with an impressive 10 RBI.  He slugged an eye-opening 1.000 with two doubles and three home runs, and he also homered in back-to-back games against High Point and Presbyterian.

DeLeon also picked up a pair of walks and two stolen bases, and touched home six times with a .522 on-base percentage.  His best game came in the series finale against Saint Joseph's when he knocked two doubles and drove in four RBI.

Through 13 games, DeLeon currently leads the MEAC in batting average (.447), slugging percentage (.830), hits (21), home runs (4), and RBI (20).  He's also ranked third nationally in NCAA Division I in RBI, fifth in total bases with 39, and 12th in total hits.

This is DeLeon's second weekly honor, and the second for the Eagles as well this season.

NCCU is next in action on Wednesday, March 4 at UNC Wilmington.
