TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – North Carolina Central University and Florida A&M had to wait out a couple weather delays over the afternoon, but the Rattlers built their lead early with a big third inning on the way to a shortened 11-1 win on Saturday, May 4 at Moore Kittles Field.
NCCU (19-26, 10-12 MEAC) got onto the scoreboard first this time around in the top of the second inning after
Josh Brammell (Harrison City, Pa.) started the inning with a double, and
Caleb Coyle (Wake Forest, N.C.) drove him in to send the Eagles ahead, 1-0.
FAMU (20-28, 12-8 MEAC) tied the game in the bottom of the frame, and then created separation in the bottom of the third as the Rattlers sent 10 men to the plate and scored six to take a 7-1 lead. The Rattlers scored a pair in the bottom of the fourth and then Octavien Moyer (Navarre, Fla.) homered in both the fifth and seventh innings to finish the game for the hosts.
Both
Trey Maslin (Franklin, N.C.) and
Vinny Bailey (Raleigh, N.C.) recorded hits for the Eagles as well. Game three of the weekend series is scheduled for Sunday, May 5 at noon.
